to stay strong for my loved ones. to keep my heart open to dreams. For as long as there's a dream, there is hope, and as long as there is hope, there is joy in living.

Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai Trip 5 - 9 Aug '09 (Last day)
Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai Trip 5 - 9 Aug '09 (Day 4)
The hotel provide shuttle service to Airport Plaza (shopping mall). We ate quite alots of the Thai food and dessert at the mall. The mango, gluttious rice with coconut milk was the best I had :)
We stayed in Duangtawan hotel for this trip and had our dinner at the highest floor. It was elegant and stylish, with its unmatched panoramic view of the tranquil city.
Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai Trip 5 - 9 Aug '09 (Day 3)
This is the 'Mae Kajan' hot spring and is my first time at a hot spring.
The 'White Temple', I love this temple, this temple is unlike any other temples I've seen so far. The construction was took place back in 1998 and is still going on. The temple is totally white in color and cover with little mirror tiles. When you enter the temple you have to cross a bridge and beneath it there are a lot of hands grasping up into the air resembling desire or greed. Also most of the statues are pretty scary and decorated with skulls and devil like creatures. Once inside the temple the mural paintings are very modern. There is a picture of a plane crashing into the twin towers with two monsters coming out of the buildings and there are spaceships and stuff.
This is Chiangrai, we have our lunch here. It gives me a 70s feel of Singapore.
At the Golden Triangle (the gate of the borders in Thailand, Burma and Lao) at the intersection between the Mekong river and Kong river.
At 'Mae Sai', the northermost town of Thailand.
Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai Trip 5 - 9 Aug '09 (Day 2)
On the second day, we visited the Mix Hill Tribes Village where we can see the Long Neck, White Karen, Lahuchlbalah, Mong (Meo) & The Pharong (Long Ears) tribes. Traditionally the women who could afford it would start wearing brass coils on their necks, arms and legs from the time they're 5 years old. The coils would be polished daily so that they have a high sheen. They will upgrade their coils whenever they can afford it. The average weight of a coil on an adult woman's neck is about 3 - 5 kg!!!
Maesa Elephant Camp is a great place if one is interested in short elephant rides, they offer hour and half hour sessions. Your mahout (elephant guide) will guide you along paths through the forest and fields surrounding the village. But I felt that it is animal abuse to ride on those poor elephants.
I do like seeing the group of elephants paint, you can buy the painting for about 1000 to 3000 baht. The camp created one painting by a group of the eight artist elephants which became an interest on the world stage when the Ripley's Believe It Or Not and the Guinness World Records acknowledged this special painting as “the Largest Painting by a Group of Elephants” and “the Most Expensive Painting by A Group of Elephants” respectively.
Next we proceed to the Monkey Centre, the monkeys are all so cute looking but their living condition was terrible. There were several monkeys in tiny cages (maybe 2 feet by 2 feet) bouncing round the cage.
An Orchid farm.
Enjoying a bowl of cold birdnest.
Umbrella making.
There was a night market right at the junction near our hotel. We were there almost every night during our stayed.
Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai Trip 5 - 9 Aug '09 (Day 1)
I have not been updating my blog as I'm extremely busy and also the modem broke down many weeks ago.
We came back from Chiangmai almost a month and I only managed to do the update today. For this trip, luckily for us that we did not fall sick. I remembered the last time (about 3 years ago) when we went to Bangkok, my hubby and me fell sick from the second day onwards, and 2 days MC after coming back to Singapore.
We took the morning flight to Chiangmai and we reached there around 1 in the afternoon. The above photos were taken on the coach. Chiangmai is located 700km north of Bangkok.
We had a buffet lunch (about SGD$6) at one of the hotel in Chiangmai.
Visited 'Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep', the most famous temple in Chiangmai, standing on Doi Suthep, a hill to the north-west of the city. This temple dates from 1383. The temple also had a superb views over the city on a clear day.
We have a 'Khantoke Dinner', the customary northern Thai style of eating with food being served in large platters at low tables while we sit on mats on a rised platform.
As we enjoy our meal, we are being entertained by a selection of northern cultural performances including the charming Fon Lep (Thai Finger Dance), Ram Dab (Thai Sword Dance), Fon Thiean (Thai Candle Dance), and Ram Wong (Group Dance). Food served are: "Gaeng Hung-Lay", Burmese pork curry; "Gai Tawd" fried chicken; "Paad Pugg", fried vegetable (usually cabbage); and "Naam Prik Ong" pork tomato-chili paste, mildly hot, served with fresh cucumber slices; "Kaeb Moo", pork rind, which are for dipping with paste; along with these food dishes, for starter is fried banana, which is my mum's favourite. Dinners can use fingers to break off pieces of sticky rice and dip it into the various bowls instead of using cutlery. Dessert is popped rice crackers, coffee or tea.
