Sengkang Recreation & Sports Centre

It is the school one week holiday and I specially requested Aunty Jean to 'loan' over Yee Hwee for 1.5 days.

We went to the newly open Sengkang Recreation & Sports Centre for our afternoon swim. It was raining heavily on our way there and Yee Hwee was so disappointment but she kept praying hard for the rain to stop; so cute... and her prayer was eventually answered; the rain did stop! We basically tried all the slides, even the children ones and outdoor pool too, except for the indoor pool and mini Jaccuzi (it was filled with people at all times). The slides was a bit too much for me to handle, I slided down ultra fast as compared to my hubby and Yee Hwee. I think must be my heavy bottom heehee...
Sengkang Recreation & Sports Centre was opened on the 1st of Aug, it was located at Sengkang along Sungei Punggol. They have a full range of sports facilities such as swimming pool, gym, 9 badminton courts and a football field, this is an ideal place to get a cardio workout or pick up a new hobby.

Still Blooming...

My hubby and me went to visit Molly yesterday, quite surprised that the red roses were still blooming beautifully :)

12 Lotus

Went to watch 12 Lotus this morning with my hubby. It was Royston Tan second getai movie after 881. I don't really enjoy the movie because the storyline wasn't that exciting and was kinda draggy. I preferred 881 than 12 Lotus, I can watch 881 over again many times but not for 12 Lotus; once is enough. For those who are thinking of catching this movie, don't expect the same standard as 881.

Molly's Niche Is Finally Here

We (My mum, Josef, Uncle Meng & Wife, and of cos Me) were at the Garden of Remembrance to witness Molly's niche being put up today. The photo was done up in Italy which took 3 months to complete and the rest are from Singapore.

This friendly uncle came to fix Molly's niche. He commented that the niche is very unique because of the size of the photo (biggest of all) and the text layout. I managed to snap some pictures of him on setting up Molly's niche.
See the lovely chocolate cake? Josef bought it for Molly :)

Benefits of Cranberries

I love fruit juice, particularly Marigold Peel Fresh - Apple & Cranberries juice with No-Sugar Added.

Cranberries are acidic in content, they have a strong antibiotic effect on urinary tract, helping to purify the urine and reducing the likelihood of infection. In additions, cranberry's high Vitamin C content makes it a natural vitamin supplement that's delicious as a drink as well. It enhances blood circulation and can provide relief against asthma. It inhibits bad cholesterol and protects against heart disease due to its tannins. It prevents the formation of kidney stones.

Game & Watch

For those born during the 70s, I'm sure these hand held games are something which you are very familiar with. These hand held games are very popular during the 80s and games like "Octopus", "Fire" and "Western Bar" were my favorite. When we (Molly & Me) were kids, we could not afford it, the only time we got to played were at my cousin (Jack and Joel) place; and we sometimes borrowed it from our friends too. When I played with Molly, we always challenged with each other for the highest score. But whenever I were to play for too long she would threatened to reset my high scored, so me being the timid one would straight away returned it to her. Things like that does bring back wonderful memories which I treasure a lot...

Pancake Express

This morning my hubby and me had pancakes for breakfast. Ah Fang bought a package of pancake mix for me, she tried it and told me that it was very easy to make.

To begin, all you need is 150ml of milk and 1 egg. Mixed both together.

Next pour out the package of flour and continue mixing it.
After a couple of minutes of good stirring, you can begin your masterpiece.

Remember to cook over slow fire, otherwise it will over cook real fast.

Tada! The finished product, add some maple syrup (comes together inside the box) and butter (this doesn't).
Yummy! And its ready to serve. Bon appetit!

Seletar Airport

I love those black & white bungalows and semi detached houses at Seletar Airport. The surrounding is very peaceful and full of greenery, it reminds me of my kampong days. I remembered there was once we drove there with Molly and she said how nice it would be if she can recuperate there during her chemotherapy days. Time seems to pass slower when you are there.

I really hope that one day I can have a chance to stay in one of the houses.

Breakfast @ Crystal Jade Kitchen

Last Saturday, we (my mum, my hubby and me) went to Jurong Point Crystal Jade Kitchen for our breakfast after visited Molly. We ordered a total of 8 tasty dim sums including a plate of "E-Fu" noodle. Each of us ordered our favorite food, for me the "Shredded Pork with Century Egg Congee" and "Rice Rolls with Scallops". For my mum, her all time favorite, "Feng Zhua" (aka chicken claws) with black bean sauce. As for my hubby, he loves egg tarts; it came with flaky crust and delicate egg custard. After the wonderful big breakfast, the three of us left the place with a happy tummy.

Avocado Juice

I like Avocado juice. The Avocado juice selling at Alexandra Food Centre (opposite Queensway Shopping Centre) taste so...good and only cost $2 per cup, better than the one at Sanur Indonesian Restaurant.

The flesh of a ripe avocado is as good for you as it tastes. It is a rich source of vitamin E and a good source of potassium, with useful amounts of vitamin B6, and lutein. It also supplies vitamin C, riboflavin and manganese. Vitamins C and E are both antioxidants and can therefore help to prevent the free radical damage that might lead to certain cancers. Potassium helps to control blood pressure and maintain a regular heartbeat and a healthy nervous system. Vitamin B6 is important for the normal functioning of the nervous system, and lutein helps to prevent cataracts and macular degeneration.

Disgusting Creature

I'm very afraid of cockroaches and especially those that fly. I remembered when I was around 7 years old, a nasty cockroach crawled into my dress. Yucks! Till now whenever I see cockroach I will get goosebumps and the feeling of it's legs on my skin. Touch wood! I have not seen any cockroaches in my house yet :)

Do You Know That?
A cockroach can live without its head for up to a week. This is because its brain is not in the head, rather is scattered throughout its body.
Cockroaches can survive without food for a month, but it will live only a week without water.
Some of the female cockroaches can mate once and remain pregnant for the rest of their lives.
Adult male cockroaches can fit into a space of hardly 1.6 mm, but a pregnant female require 4.5mm of space to hide.
The heast of a cockroach comprises of a simple tube with valves. It can stop moving anytime, without harming the roach.
A cockroach can make use of its feelers or antennae, as noses.
The sense of smell of cockroahes is very acute. In fact, they can recognize family and friends by their distinctive odors.
Female cockroaches attract males by producing pheromones, a type of scent.
Cockroaches wear their skeletons on the outside of their bodies and have white blood.
The world's largest cockroach is found in South America. It is six inches long and has a wingspan of up to one-foot.
A cockroach can swim and even hold its breath for 40 minutes, at a stretch.
When a cockroach sheds its skin, it becomes completely white. However, the skin grows back within a period of 8 hours.
Male cockroaches not only weigh less than female cockroaches, but can also fly and flee faster.
Cockroach once served as guests of honor in European homes. In fact, it was customary to release them in new houses.
A cockroach does not have blood vessels.
Cockroaches spend at least 75 percent of their time in resting.

Go Nutty

Eating Nuts is excellent for your skin and can also lower "bad" cholesterol (HDL). All these nuts are high in fibre, folate, calcium, magnesium, potassium, protein and phytochemcials. Eat the nuts plain - unsweetened and unsalted because nuts are high in fat and will load up on your calories.

Almonds has the same effect as the cholesterol-lowering drugs called statins. It provide a protection against heart disease, stroke and other chronic diseases. Study showed that adding nearly 2 servings of almons to a person's diet did not cause them to gain weight or body fat at all, but rather led them to decrease their intake of calories from other sources of food, simply because almonds are satisfying and make you feel full faster.

Pistachios are rich in potassium (helps regulate the body's fluid balance), phosphorus (helps build bones and teeth) and magnesium (important element in the conversion of the body's energy), and are also a good source of vitamin B6 (aids protein metabolism and absorption) and thiamine (enhances energy and promotes normal appetite). Pistachios are high in fibre and low in saturated fat, with a relatively low calorie value when compared to others nuts.

Macadamia nuts contain significant amounts of fibre (helps the movement of the digestive tract) and the B-complex vitamins (mostly involved in the metabolism processes), as well as small amounts of selenium (important antioxidant properties), calcium (builds bones and teeth), phosphorus (also builds bones and teeth), potassium (regulates the body's fluid balance), iron (essentials for red blood cell function and enzyme activity) and magnesium (promotes energy release and bone growth).

Hazelnuts are rich in vitamin E (good for the skin and also helps form red blood cells, muscles and other tissues) and are a useful source of thiamine (enhances energy) and vitamin B6 (aids protein metabolism and absorption). These nuts are also relatively good sources of protein (essential for growth and repair of the body's cells), dietary fibre (helps the movement of the digestive tract), iron (essential for red blood cell function and enzyme activity), calcium (helps build bones and teeth) and potassium (helps regulate the body's fluid balance).

Pine nuts are more accurately seeds, since they are the seedlings of pinecones. Pine nuts are actually one of the higher fat nuts, and are often used in rich foods such as pesto. But don't let the small size fool you - pine nuts are very nutrient dense, and full of vitamins A, C and D. The best thing about pine nuts is their high contraction of monounsaturated fat.

Let's Go To The Zoo

Yesterday, my hubby and me visited the zoo. It was a bright and sunny Saturday.

About 2 months ago before Molly passed away, we made plan with her to visit the Zoo. At that time, she was feeling very weak and we rented a wheelchair for her. Molly, like me enjoy going to the Zoo.
